My friends in the band Owl were back in LA to mark the launch of a new album, The Right Thing on Overit Records. I caught them live at the Roxy in Hollywood on the night of their launch party. This is the second album from the trio headed by Chris Wyse, longtime base-player for alt-rock band, The Cult. He's joined by long time collaborators, Drummer, Dan Dinsmore and Guitarist, Jason Achilles Mezilis. Like most rock trios, there are no slackers in this group – they all shred.

This already accomplished band shows huge growth in their song-writing, arrangements and performance.  With their new matieral, they're also moving beyond their alt-rock roots. They've somehow managed to merge the raw energy of punk rock with the complexity and virtuosity of progressive rock – not an easy feat.

This band has toured on-and-off since the launch of their first album and they've shared the bill bands ranging from Jet, to Helmet to all-star rockers, Camp Freddy.  And it's easy to see why Owl would share the stage with such a diverse set of rockers. Owl shreds like the best of them, but still balance the raw energy with melody and hooks.
