Seven hot Israel-connected startups recently pitched their companies and product offerings to an audience of VCs, tech, media and entertainment execs in Los Angeles. They were part of The Israel Conference 2013 session: FutureFest, Where Hot Money Meets Cool Companies. These hot startups need to either be Israeli-based or have a presence in Israel. These startups are in good company: Waze, a participant in The Israel Conference in 2011, is being sold to Google for over a billion dollars.
FutureFest presenters have 5 minutes to introduce their company, technology and products to judges in front of The Israel Festival audience. Qualified companies generated under $10 Million in revenue in software, consumer products, mobile, advertising, clean-tech or medical technology. Each company must have a business relationship to Israel – corporate offices or R&D offices in Israel.
Here are some highlights:
Paperless Proposals - Laurence Abrams, CEO
Paperless Proposals provides cloud-based software that helps you to create, manage and track business proposals online. It enable sales forces to create powerful sales presentations in minutes, which can modified or customized for each client, if needed. The tool provides an alternative to sharing a printed document or PDF for each client. Instead, there is an online repository for all their marketing assets in the context of a viewer. Powerpoint, Excel, word docs, PDFs, Videos. You can send your client one link, which opens in a viewer where the client is presented with all custom proposal elements. They have templates, merge documents, custom pricing through the entire. You or your sales rep will be notified immediately when the document is read and you can track exactly what is read, for how long and if the document is shared.
Wonder Voice Mobile – Gal Melamed, Founder and CEO
Wonder Voice is like Siri, only it’s designed to work in cases were Siri does not, for example while interacting on Facebook. Everyone knows not to interact with Facebook while driving, but people do it anyway. So why not doing it via voice interaction? Siri is good at certain tasks, but only works with Apple applications. Wonder Voice was created to allow similar types of interaction with third party apps, including such addictive apps as Facebook. You can currently use it to interact with Facebook, ask it to read the newsfeed or listen to music from Spotify. The app made it to the top 10 in the App store with no PR or marketing costs. For now it works with Facebook and Spotify, but they hope to expand to include Gmail, parking information and other apps. The demo was very impressive.
SQREAM Technologies - Ami Gal CEO
SQREAM promises something that seems almost impossible: making big data easy to manage and do so at a fraction of the cost of other alternatives. Big data is a large market with huge opportunities, but only if you can get insights from the data. The promise is no-hassle data analytics. You simply load the data into the Database and run the query. They claim this system can analyze up to 100 terabytes on a single standard server. They claim that Scream running on a $15,000 server has the same performance as $7,000,000 server. That's a huge price/performance ratio. The special sauce is use of a GPU. A GPU has thousands of cores, whereas a typical computer CPU has only 8 cores. Think about how that might scale. You can get 10,000 cores with 10 GPU units.
